This brutalist seven-story building has played many roles over its life, most recently functioning as a long-term-stay hotel in need of some love. But where some would have called in the wrecking ball, we saw opportunity in the bones and unique features of the property. We were able to expose and celebrate a six-story atrium feature long forgotten, thoroughly modernize the interior, added an eighth floor, and topped it all off with a common rooftop featuring stunning harbour views.

Now fully transformed, The Shuffle is home to 81 micro-studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments designed to make smart use of every square foot. Exposed concrete, original art, balconies, harbour views, and a shared rooftop give the building plenty of personality, while restaurants at street level bring some extra life downstairs. Best of all, it puts residents right in the heart of downtown Dartmouth, steps from local restaurants and cafés, shops, greenspaces, trails, transit, and the ferry to Halifax.
